Have you tried setting the default profile in the Control Panel only to have it fail to work?
Try this:
- Close Microsoft Outlook.
- Open your registry editor and go to "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles"
- Change the "DefaultProfile" data to "Outlook"
- Then rename the profile Key to "Outlook"
- Then restart Outlook.
